NBA to Vote on Expansion

The NBA will hold a vote at the board of governors meetings next week to explore adding expansion teams exclusively in Las Vegas and Seattle, sources told ESPN, with the two new franchises being targeted to start play in the 2028-29 season.

There is momentum within the board of governors and league office to approve moving forward with taking bids for franchises in Las Vegas and Seattle, according to sources with knowledge of the discussions.

Industry executives project proposals in the $7-10 billion range for each team and estimate that both markets would be among the NBA's top eight revenue generators. The market appeal of Las Vegas and Seattle, plus the parity-friendly collective bargaining agreement, will likely lead to a robust purchase market for expansion.

Metro Atlanta mall developer takes next step in transforming site into NHL arena

The property manager and owner of a metro Atlanta mall took the next step in reimagining the site into a pro hockey sports arena.

Jamestown and New York Life announced they submitted a zoning application on March 16 to redevelop North Point Mall in Alpharetta into a sports-anchored entertainment district.

The nearly 100-acre proposal is headlined by a 20,000-seat arena intended to bring a National Hockey League team back to metro Atlanta.

The redevelopment plan aligns with the Alpharetta Comprehensive Plan and a proposed Tax Allocation District, the companies said in a news release March 17. They said the proposal aims to maximize the site’s potential for job creation and tax base growth while establishing a pedestrian-friendly gathering place for residents and visitors.
