Kings' late foul was tactical error, not tanking after investigation
The NBA on Wednesday is looking into what Sacramento Kings sources say was a strategy mistake by coach Doug Christie -- and not intentional tanking tactics -- late in Tuesday's loss to the Golden State Warriors.
With the Kings leading by one with 3:15 remaining in the game, Christie called for forward Doug McDermott to foul Seth Curry, despite being in the penalty.
The strategy was just a misstep, sources told ESPN, as Christie wanted to use a timeout before he automatically lost it when the clock ticked below three minutes. Sources said Christie miscalculated that the Warriors were in the bonus and it would send Curry, an 86.4% career free throw shooter, to the line, despite more appealing options on the floor to foul if opting to hack a player.

Sabres clinch playoff spot, end longest drought in NHL history

After an NHL-record 14 seasons of futility, during which the team finished no better than 19th in the league, the Sabres clinched a berth Saturday when the New York Rangers defeated the Detroit Red Wings in regulation.
Buffalo's playoff drought was among the four North American major sports' longest active streaks, ranking second behind the New York Jets, who last qualified in 2010.
The Sabres clinched with six games left in their season, before losing 6-2 at the Washington Capitals on Saturday night, and are in contention to earn the Eastern Conference's top seed.
Islanders fire coach Patrick Roy with 4 games remaining before playoffs, hire Peter DeBoer to replace him
For the second consecutive Sunday, an NHL team looking ahead to the postseason has fired its head coach.
The New York Islanders announced on Sunday that Patrick Roy “has been relieved of his coaching responsibilities.” Peter DeBoer has been hired to replace him with four games remaining in the regular season.
The Islanders are currently the seventh seed in the East with a 42-31-5 record and 89 points. But their hold on that spot is tenuous after four consecutive losses and defeats in seven of the past 10 games. Four teams are now behind New York, which has 88 points. The Islanders face one of the teams directly behind them on Saturday, hosting the Ottawa Senators.

'It was the Jo Show': Adell robs 3 home runs
was the Jo Show in front of a sold-out crowd of delirious Angels fans who couldn’t believe what they witnessed Saturday night.
Angels right fielder Jo Adell robbed not one, not two, but three home runs in an absolutely unbelievable and unprecedented defensive effort to preserve a 1-0 win over the Mariners in the club’s first home win of the season.
Adell took away homers from Cal Raleigh in the first, Josh Naylor in the eighth and J.P. Crawford in the ninth, with his final catch seeing him end up in the stands in the right-field corner before he lifted his glove up in jubilation to signify an incredible catch upheld after a review.
José Ramírez now owns a coveted franchise record that had stood since 1918
José Ramírez stepped out of the Guardians’ dugout entering the top of the sixth inning on Monday night to a chorus of cheers from the Cleveland faithful. As he approached third base, the number “1,620” appeared on Progressive Field’s left-field videoboard.
When Monday’s 4-2 series-opening loss to the Royals became official after five innings, Ramírez set a new franchise record for games played by appearing in his 1,620th career contest. The 33-year-old snapped a tie with Terry Turner, who appeared in his 1,619th and final game for the franchise on Sept. 1, 1918.

DOJ opens antitrust investigation of NFL over TV deals

The Justice Department has begun an investigation into whether the NFL has violated anticompetitive practices with its television contracts that require consumers to pay subscription costs to watch some games, sources confirmed to ABC News.
"This is about affordability and creating an even playing field for providers," a government official told ABC News.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the news, writing that the "nature and scope" of the Justice Department's investigation were unknown.
The NFL has an antitrust exemption for the negotiating of its television contracts through the Sports Broadcast Act of 1961, which only applies to broadcast television. Courts have ruled in the past that it does not apply to other media, including cable, satellite and streaming.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), who is the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights, wrote a letter to the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission on March 3 urging them to review whether the NFL's distribution methods are in line with the Sports Broadcasting Act.
Lee said in his letter that football fans spent almost $1,000 on cable and streaming subscriptions. Forbes estimated the cost of watching every NFL game via streaming last season at $765.
